An 18-year-old, Giovanni Pelletier, vanished under chilling and suspicious circumstances. This, while he was allegedly trying to reconnect with his father’s side of the family. Though his mother initially had no reason to worry, everything took a terrifying turn—and tragically, Giovanni has now been believed to be found dead, leaving his family devastated and searching for answers
After days of searching, prayers, and heartbreak, Giovanni Pelletier, who went missing earlier this month in Florida, is believed to be confirmed dead. His family shared the devastating news on August 9, just one day after a decomposing body was discovered near the area where Giovanni was last seen. Authorities say preliminary findings indicate the body is Giovanni’s. However, a recent autopsy test has determined that “further forensic testing” is necessary to completely identify the body, per the New York Post. Furthermore, as of now, no obvious signs of foul play have been confirmed.
Giovanni, who had recently graduated from high school, was visiting Florida with his mom, her fiancé, and his siblings. While there, Giovanni arranged to reconnect with family members from his estranged father’s side. However, his mom reportedly said she had some hesitation about him going off alone. Still, she wanted to support his effort to build that bond.
According to Bridgette, Giovanni’s paternal grandfather left her a voicemail saying an altercation had occurred. And that the cousins had left him on the side of the road. One cousin reportedly admitted they had smoked weed together, and that Giovanni began to panic and pulled out a knife before running off. She told People the alleged behavior was completely out of character, and that her son likely felt “threatened and outnumbered.” But what has the family even more shaken is the silence. “None of these kids that were with him have tried to call me,” she said.
Bridgette said she woke up to a string of missed calls and messages from Giovanni. Additionally, she received a chilling text that simply read “Mom help.” He also tried FaceTiming her and called other family members around the same time. Furthermore, Bridgette was able to track his location and found his phone and backpack abandoned by the side of the road. “He eats, sleeps, showers, breathes his phone,” she said, adding, “My son would never run away and just text me ‘help me.’ He knows I would burn this world down to find him.” Tragically, the body believed to be Giovanni was found in a retention pond near where the teen was last seen in Bradenton, Florida.
In a heartbreaking Facebook post, his mother shared a sentimental photo of them with the text:
“My son was recently found after a desperate search by OUR FAMILY ALONE, and we are still facing an active investigation into his death. I am living every parent’s worst nightmare, trying to find the strength to give him the goodbye he deserves. We ask that you please respect our privacy at this time as we try to navigate this for his 4 younger siblings.”
As of Monday, August 11, the investigation into the teen’s death continues.
