Former baseball star David Justice is finally opening up about his short-lived marriage to Halle Berry, and let’s all just ask WHY???

In a sit-down on the All The Smoke podcast, Justice, who was married to Halle Berry from 1993 to 1997, claimed one big reason for their split was her so-called “lack of maternal traits.” According to him, Halle didn’t cook, didn’t clean, and just wasn’t giving “mom vibes.”
But apparently, she was the one who popped the question. Yup, only five months into dating, Halle asked him to marry her. He said he said “yes” because, well… who says no to Halle Berry? But deep down, he admits his heart wasn’t ready. Between her busy acting schedule keeping them apart, and his uncertainty about marriage, cracks started forming fast.
Justice compared Halle to his own mother, who embodied more traditional domestic roles, and said he wasn’t sure she’d be the kind of partner or future mom he wanted. He even admitted they probably could’ve worked it out if they’d gone to therapy, since there was no big cheating scandal or blow-up fight… just a clash of lifestyles and values.
Meanwhile, Halle isn’t losing sleep over what people say about her love life. In a February 2024 interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, she clapped back at the “can’t keep a man” comments, saying: “Who’s to say I wanna keep a man? I don’t wanna keep the wrong man.” Now 58 and happily dating musician Van Hunt, she’s all about healthy relationships, personal growth, and living unbothered.
So while Justice is out here reminiscing about what went wrong, Halle seems more focused on what’s right and making it clear she’s not here to play the “perfect wife” role for anyone.
