The annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Musuem of Art’s Costume Institutes brings together the biggest name in politics, fashion and entertainment for one night of carousal spree.
Note that the Met Gala is more than just the fashion world’s version of the Academy awards or the Grammy’s.
The world’s biggest celebrities are bound to look their best on this night. Historically, guests are supposed to dress in the fashion’s of the event’s honoured designer. But this tradition has always been known to turn controversial.
The Met Gala is held the first Monday in May to raise money for the Costume Institute.
The night festivities have been called many things like, “the party of the year.”
This Year’s Theme..
The costume Institute new exhibits honours the work of Comme des Garcons designer Rei Kawakubo. Kawakubo is a 74-year-old Japanese designer who founded the Comme des Garcon in 1969. She is one of the most important and influential designers of the past 40 years.
The attendees are expected to match the exhibit’s theme with their own fashion choices for the evening.
Therefore, this Year’s party-goers are encouraged to honour the bold, architectural designs of Kawakubo who is the first living designer to be honored by the Costume Institute since Yves Saint Laurent in 1983.
Celebrity Host For This Year…
Along with Wintour this year, Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams, Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen with Kawakubo will be hosting this year’s event.
Katy Perry appeared on the May cover of Vogue, ahead of the Gala in honour of Kawakubo in a dedicated Comme des Garcon spread.
Who Are We To Expect At The Gala…..
Only Hollywood’s biggest awards shows boast guests lists that rival that of the invitation-only Met Gala. Without has the final say over every attendee, and celebrities from A-list entertainers to political heavyweights mingle together at the event.
Last year, Beyonce, Jay Z, you Taylor Swift, Kanye West and the entire Kardiashain family were hosted by the Met Gala. The guest list for this year’s event will be slightly similar.
