On Day 2 of the trial, August 26, 2025, the courtroom took an unexpected turn. Cardi walked in with a sleek black pixie wig one day, then appeared the next with a long blonde wig. The attorney paused to ask, “Which one is your real hair? Or are they both real?” Cardi laughed and responded, “They’re wigs.” The lawyer, sounding slightly embarrassed, admitted, “Okay, sorry, I didn’t know that. It’s a good wig today then.”
The focus then shifted from hair to nails. The same lawyer asked Cardi to show her fingernails to the courtroom. “How long are those fingernails?” he pressed. Cardi described them as round, “opal” shaped, and less than an inch long. She added that putting on three-inch acrylics could take a couple of hours, a detail that landed like an impromptu beauty lesson in court. The questioning seemed intended to suggest her nails could have caused harm, but Cardi stayed composed and avoided theatrics.
The oddest moment came when the lawyer asked whether Cardi had any gang affiliations. Her attorney immediately objected, and the judge shut down the line of questioning, ruling it irrelevant.
