I spent the better part of last weekend and some questionable chunks of my office hours, binging the already-available episodes of Wednesday Season 2 on Netflix. And I have mixed feelings.

If you somehow missed Season 1, here’s the quick catch-up: Wednesday follows a girl (you’ll never guess her name) played by Jenna Ortega who gets expelled from her school for being a bit… unconventional. She’s shipped off to Nevermore Academy, a boarding school for “Outcasts” kids with supernatural abilities. Think Hogwarts, but moodier. She quickly gets tangled in a murder investigation, and the Season 1 killer reveal was genuinely shocking. Naturally, I was counting down for Season 2. Three agonizing, Wednesday-less years later, it’s finally here… split into two parts. I’m not totally against that, but it’s still annoying.
This season, Wednesday is once again on the trail of a killer. Her psychic visions warn that the next victim will be her roommate and reluctant bestie, Enid a cheerful werewolf with serious Twilight energy. However, just as she gets the vision, her powers vanish. POOF. Gone. So she’s left relying on her Sherlock-style sleuthing to solve the case before Enid ends up dead.
Enid (Emma Meyers), though, is testing my patience this season. In Season 1, she was dating Ajax, a gorgon. Now she’s moved on to someone new, which is fine, but instead of just telling Ajax, she ghosts him while actively pursuing a relationship with her new fellow, who’s name I can not remember. Only when Ajax corners her does she break up with him, tears streaming, as if he wronged her. I sat there thinking, “Girl, what are you crying for?”

Then there’s Wednesday’s brother, Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez). First of all, Netflix, a word: stop waiting so long between seasons. Puberty exists. This is not the same child from Season 1.

Anyway, Pugsley finds a zombie, names it Slug, and decides to keep it instead of alerting the school. Naturally, he doesn’t and brings Slug along at the school camp trip (because why not?) and eventually breaks free, killing a normie captain and nearly his own parents before the authorities step in. Has Pugsley faced any consequences? Nope. At least not yet. Honestly, This storyline is so draining and for no good reason.
I don’t want to give too much spoilers, but regarding the murder mystery storyline, there are somethings that don’t make sense. Come September 3rd, I hope I find answers.
