So, get this, an American woman has just been convicted in the UK for a wild, straight-out-of-a-movie assassination plot. Her name is Aimee Betro, and she is 45, from Wisconsin. And honestly, the whole thing is screaming low-budget crime drama… except it’s real.

Back in 2019, Aimee flew all the way to Birmingham because of a man she met on a dating app (yes, you read that right). The guy, Mohammed Nabil Nazir, and his dad, Mohammed Aslam, had beef with another family.
Next thing you know, they allegedly roped Aimee into handling their “problem” for them.
So, picture this: Aimee, head-to-toe in a niqab, lurking outside the target’s house in Yardley like some undercover villain. The target, Sikander Ali, pulls up, and she pulls out her gun, but it jams, and Sikander ran for his life. You’d think that’d be the end of it, right? But that was only the begining. Hours later, she comes back and starts shooting through the family’s windows. Luckily, no one was home, but still, imagine coming back to bullet holes in your living room wall.
Apparently, after the mess, she disappeared. Turns out she was hiding out in Armenia for years, living her fugitive life, until the UK police, the FBI, and Armenian authorities teamed up to track her down. She finally got dragged back to the UK, and after a long trial, the jury said “guilty” on conspiracy to murder, having an illegal gun, and bringing in ammo.
Nazir and his dad are already locked up, and Aimee’s sentencing is set for 21 August. Honestly, the whole thing is giving “crime of passion meets bad action movie” energy, except it’s someone’s real life. And all of it kicked off from a dating app. Please be careful on these streets.
