A small seaside town in Kent is reeling after a man in his 40s was found dead in Leysdown-on-Sea on the Isle of Sheppey. What’s even more shocking is that three teenagers, a 16-year-old girl and two boys, aged 14 and 15, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

It all unfolded on Sunday, 10th August, just after 7 pm. Police and an air ambulance rushed to Warden Bay Road after reports of a violent altercation were made. Despite efforts to save him, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the BBC, residents say the area is usually peaceful, making the tragedy even harder to process. Paul Bentley, 61, summed up the community’s shock: “This kind of thing just doesn’t happen.” Another local, Letitia Etherington, called it “shocking” for such a quiet place.
Police quickly sealed off the area, including a clearing near the beach in front of a caravan park and a public footpath leading to the shore. On Monday, an officer stood guard at a fenced-off section while specialist teams which included a police dog unit, searched for evidence.
Eyewitnesses describe a dramatic scene on Sunday night. One holidaymaker told the BBC that about 100 people were watching as emergency crews worked desperately to revive the man. Shop owner Anton Jasnu recalled running out when he saw CPR being performed on the beach, just a stone’s throw from his store.
With a population of under 1,000, Leysdown-on-Sea isn’t used to this kind of headline. Even local MP Kevin McKenna said he was “deeply saddened and shocked” by what happened.
Kent Police are asking anyone who saw what unfolded or has information to come forward. For now, three young lives are in police custody, a man has lost his life, and a tight-knit coastal community is left searching for answers.
