DJ Black Coffee Makes Shortlist For Prestigious Global DJ Award In Spain

DJ Black Coffee has given us even more reason to celebrate him, after bagging a nomination for Best Deep House DJ at the prestigious Ibiza DJ Awards in Spain

This is Black Coffee’s third nomination for the international awards, which celebrate DJs and producers excelling in the electronic music space.

Last year, he walked away with the coveted title and in 2015 – the first time he cracked a nomination – he bagged the Best Breakthrough DJ award.

This time, Black Coffee is up against British DJs Damian Lazarus and Maya Jane Cole, as well as American deck-spinner DJ Bedouin.

“The final list of nominees has been compiled with the help of a panel of industry professionals and is more extensive than ever. They reflect a wide range of DJs and producers, including many who remain at the forefront, as well as some exciting new talents,” the awards organisers said.

Black Coffee is currently in Ibiza, after securing a residency at Hi Ibiza for the duration of the European summer, which ends in September.

The awards are set to take place on 26 September on the party island.

In an interview with DESTINY MAN, Black Coffee, whose real name is Nkosinathi Maphumulo, said he was blessed to be carving out a career from his passion.

“I get paid for my work,” he said. “It’s such a blessing. I can never take it for granted. It’s God’s blessing. It’s also because I sweat over this. I love what I’m doing. I’ve given my all to this. I can’t imagine doing anything else.”

The latest nomination follows a sensational year for the DJ last year. He was the first South African to win a BET Award for Best International Act: Africa.

He also received an International Achievement Award at the South African Music Awards and also took home the awards for Best Dance Album, Album of the Year and Best Engineered Album.
