Nylah Lewis, 16-months old from Brooklyn, New York was visiting her father on Father’s Day, when he beat her into a coma.
Shaquan Taylor, 19, sent a Facebook message to the mom, Tammy Lewis, 17, telling her there was a problem and that she needed to pick up Nylah.
When Tammy Lewis arrived, her daughter was face up on the couch and struggling to breathe. She grabbed Nylah and left the apartment, but Taylor caught up to her in the lobby. He knocked her to the ground with one punch — as she was holding their child.
Taylor was charged with assault and acting in a manner injurious to a child younger than 17. He was also charged with beating Lewis.
Taylor denied beating his daughter, first claiming she fell off the bed. But doctors told police her injuries weren’t consistent with a fall. Nylah had bleeding on the brain, multiple skull fractures and bruising on her face, legs and other parts of her body.
Tammy Lewis had been trying to get Taylor involved in her daughter’s life.
But relatives said Taylor wanted no part of fatherhood. He repeatedly denied he was the dad and only grudgingly baby-sat while the mom went to school, her family said.
When Nylah was born he wrote on Facebook,
Feel mad disrespected. Told that lil b***h to get abortion [and] she tells me she is but still keep it. Exactly why I hate that lil b***h.
Taylor also sent her a Facebook message. “If you call me,” he warned her, “I’m going to violate you.” Tammy Lewis and Nylah had been issued an order of protection against Taylor last July.
Tammy Lewis’ sister recalls Taylor threatening her sister in the past: “He said that about a year ago he was going to hit the baby if she brought (her) around and (Sunday) he threatened her and said he was going to punch her in the face when she got there. And then obviously that happened.”…
On Friday, June 23 at 10:40 am, Nylah passed away. Charges are expected to be upgraded against Taylor.
Rest peacefully baby…
