Rape victim found dead just before she was about to testify in court against school worker who sexually abused her
A teenager who went missing was found dead in a wooded area in Michigan.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the 800 block of N. Prairie Avenue in reference to a body located in a wooded area.
The deceased has been identified as 16-year-old Mujey Dumbuya of Grand Rapids.
Dumbuya went missing while waiting at her bus stop a day earlier. Her body was found about 50 miles from her home.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident as a homicide.
According to police, Dumbuya had reported that she had been raped by school worker Quinn James, who is also the uncle of her boyfriend.
Dumbuya said that she was raped multiple times by the suspect when she was 15-years-old.
He was arrested for the crime and was fired by the school.
He worked as a groundskeeper.
James was out on bond when Dumbuya went missing. James, who claimed the sex between him and the teenager was consensual, was preparing to go on trial in a few weeks.
Dumbuya was killed before she was able to testify at trial.
Police are still investigating the incident and are looking at James as a suspect. However, as of now, police do not have enough evidence to hold James for her murder.
James was arrested on an unrelated rape charge stemming from a complaint that was made by another girl who told police that she was raped by James in 2014.
He is being held on that charge on $500,000 bond.
