All seems not to be well from the ends of Kenyan, Hollywood star, Lupita Nyong’o who just took to social media to call out Grazia Magazine for what she describes as prejudice against black women’s complexion, hairstyle and texture.
In an Instagram post shared some hours ago, the Oscar winning actress called out lifestyle and fashion print, Grazia Magazine for editing her kinky hair and making it straight. She disclosed from the caption, that she was recently the cover girl for Grazia Magazine ‘s latest edition and while she felt honored for the opportunity to reach out to black girls to accept and feel comfortable in their skin like she has come to, she felt “disappointed” that the finished results of the photos made her hair look straight with the conspicuous absence of her natural curls. Nyong ‘O shared :
“As I have made clear so often in the past with every fiber of my being, I embrace my natural heritage and despite having grown up thinking light skin and straight, silky hair were the standards of beauty, I now know that my dark skin and kinky, coily hair are beautiful too,” she added “Had I been consulted, I would have explained that I cannot support or condone the omission of what is my native heritage with the intention that they appreciate that there is still a very long way to go to combat the unconscious prejudice against black women’s complexion, hair style and texture”.
The 34 year old actress went to to share edited and none edited photos of the photo shoot.
Sadly, this would not be the first time a Magazine is being accused of adjusting Nyong’O natural look. In 2014, Vanity Magazine was accused of lightning Nyong’O’s skin.
